Purchasing toys for my daughter is never an easy task. I tend to spend a lot of time mulling over details. What is the toy made out of? Is there any lead in the paint? Where was the toy made? The list goes on. I purchased the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Folding Princess Castle for my daughter’s birthday this year. I was hoping to have finally found a toy that met my standards, but was also was fun for her to play with. Much to my delight, she was floored when she saw it. I certainly made the right choice, and it took me no time at all to decide on purchasing.
The castle itself is absolutely adorable and adorned with beautifully painted, whimsical flowers. Pink is my daughter’s favorite color, so the pink and purple details were definitely a hit. There are tall towers, with enchanting open windows. Perfect for rescuing the damsel in distress. There’s plenty of space for my daughter to play in and lots of fun features. The two tallest towers and bridge that connects them can be detached if desired.
What I liked most about the castle is that it is made entirely of wood. I’ve grown concerned about all of the plastic toys on today’s shelves and was so glad to have come across this gem. There was no assembly, as the castle comes already put together. I loved that the little drawbridge could be raised and lowered with the turn of a knob and that doors were also functional. My daughter enjoys hours of time making up stories about princes and princesses, dragons and royal parties. The Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Folding Princess Castle is the perfect choice for any young girl, but especially those who are in love with anything princess related. I can’t recommend this product enough.
I recently bought the Melissa & Doug Wooden Family Doll Set for my kids ages 2 and 5 from Amazon. The doll set features a total of 7 wooden play figures having flexible limbs which are extremely easy to maneuver, move and grasp when playing with. They are a perfect addition to the Melissa & Doug Wooden Dollhouses and make for excellent playmates for young kids.
My 5-year-old daughter in particular interacts with them on a personal level and behaves with them as if they are actual people she has met. The dolls themselves are excellent toys for individual play and can be made to sit or stand thanks to their flexible limbs. My daughter has even got the grandfather to successfully ride her wooden rocking horse and the grandmother is a permanent fixture in her dollhouse. My younger son enjoys the company of the younger dolls and must have them for company when it is time for his bath and he likes to keep the little baby all by itself or with the mama doll.
The dolls themselves are adorable and cute and indeed great value for the money. I would go so far as to say you cannot get anything better at this price. They are extremely well constructed and a good alternative to cheap plastic toys being made of wood. The kids love them and play with them for hours on end and the dolls have continued to be durable, strong and pliable in their hands.
The only disadvantages I can think of are the clothes cannot be removed and the dolls are too large to fit into small dollhouses but they can be manipulated to fit inside them. That apart they make for great toys and help my kids think and play creatively with them especially when moving and seating them.
I will highly recommend the Melissa & Doug Wooden Family Doll Set for young kids. They are a great alternative to Barbie and other plastic toys and great for imaginative and creative playing.
I bought the Radio Flyer All-Terrain Cargo Wagon for my eighteen month old boy. It is more than enough for him, perfect actually for two to three kids his size. It is a flatbed wagon which comes with the option of extra padding (which I would recommend as my kid loves napping in his wagon, so it is a very good option).
The model has actual tires, fitted over steel wheels, which are inflated and can be deflated (the assembly guide however does not specify the pressure to be maintained in the tire, bit of an issue). It therefore provides cushion against any bumps and jolts that the occupants might feel on an uneven terrain, ensuring a smooth ride.
The sides are made of natural wood, which fence the flatbed protecting your baby, or any other stuff that you put in the wagon to haul around, from tipping over. The handle has been made extra-long, which provides ease in pulling turning and also in being handled by tall people. The turning radius has been increased, and the space between the tires is also such that the wagon cannot topple when turning, although it means making wider turns.
The sides of the wagon are removable and the handle also folds under it, therefore making it extremely easy for it to be stored in very small places as well. This model also comes with an add on umbrella, which means extra delight for my kid and is a very useful accessory for walks in the sun. The wagon is extremely easy to assemble and clean. All you need is a cloth and soap water and it will be good as new.
All in all it is a good, solid purchase for your kids that have out grown their strollers. I would recommend it equally for a walk in the park or on the beach, put your child with a pick nick basket, blanket and his baby bag, or cart away two or three kids on a play date. Either way, best buy, worth the money :).
It’s really good if you give out a really valuable gift for your children, a Victorian finery that befits your most precious, and for that, Melissa & Doug Classic Heirloom Victorian Doll House will be the best choice to give. Make your child’s mind soar with imagination, let them make up sophisticated scenarios with this large, realistic doll house. Also, it will teach your children to appreciate beauty and finery.
Melissa & Doug Classic Heirloom Victorian Doll House also needs a good deal of assembly time, which can also be utilized as family time, wherein each family member contribute to its construction and completion, making it a very good joint activity and can develop closer family ties.
As for the safety of this product, I suggest that you closely supervise your children since there are some parts of it that are small enough to be ingested. Yet when you supervise them, you can also spend this time to play and have a bonding time with them, teaching them proper manners, by creating scenarios or play-acting with your children with the use of dolls, teaching them about values or the family. Also, the Doll House is very sturdy, so there’s really no need to worry about being careful in playing.
The furnitures are separately sold, but investing on them is a very good choice as well since they are really made intricately, matching the Victorian-style house, adding a warm and cozy ambience to it. But if you wish to put your own furnitures, it’s also okay.
The luxurious Doll House is also very lovely to behold, and can also be used as a house decoration, and is sure to attract the attention of your visiting friends and relatives. The usefulness and the durability of Melissa & Doug Classic Heirloom Victorian Doll House is a more than enough compensation for its price, and as the name suggests, the Doll house is so sturdy that it can be passed on and can be used probably by your grandchildren when the time comes.
We were not too sure about which play kitchen to get for our family. There are so many to pick from in all kinds of price ranges. We read some quick reviews and decided to go with the Kidkraft Deluxe Let’s Cook Kitchen. From what we could gather from the reviews that we read, it was of better quality and would last much longer than the most of the other choices. I am glad we made the choice we did.
The first thing that I can say about it is that it definitely is a very sturdy design. It even includes real wood parts. The kitchen comes unassembled and we could tell how sturdy it would be by how heavy the box was. Getting the parts to our kitchen was not too bad as we simply took them out of the box and moved them up in smaller loads. It took us all of about 2 hours to put it together, which is not too bad as neither of us are really all that handy. One thing we noticed was that the quality is quite good. We were not simply attacking the pieces together with clips or something, we were screwing them together and the screws were going into metal retainers. This was much better than we thought it would be and we are sure the doors and such will last for many years as our children play very hard with them.
The end results are great. It is extremely solid and our 4 year old really likes to check what is behind all of the doors. It is the perfect size for her and we are sure she will still be able to use it until she is at least 8. It is large enough for more than one child to play at once, and there is plenty for all of them to ejoy at the same time.
